About GardenQuant

GardenQuant helps you turn project measurements into useful purchase quantities. Its first tools cover raised-bed soil, mulch and square-grid plant spacing.

How we calculate

Calculations use standard geometry, published unit definitions and the values you enter. Each tool page includes its formula, a worked example and limitations. We round bags, pavers and containers up to whole quantities; material volumes and weights are shown to three decimal places.

• 1 foot = 0.3048 metres.
• 1 cubic yard = 27 cubic feet.
• 1 cubic foot = 28.316846592 litres.
• 1 US gallon = 3.785411784 litres.
• 1 US short ton = 0.90718474 metric tonnes.

These conversion factors follow NIST's SI conversion guidance. Material density, paint coverage and ordering allowances depend on the actual product. Confirm them with your supplier.

Your measurements matter

The tools do not inspect your site, material or plant variety. Irregular shapes, access paths, compaction and installation requirements can affect what you need. Read the assumptions beside each estimate before placing an order.
